On 19 June 2025, the PHI 51/25 Private Health Insurance Legislation Amendment Rules (No. 5) 2025 were issued reversing the ban that came into effect in 2019. Health Funds are again legally permitted to rebate for Pilates sessions.
The Pilates Association of Australia has provided background on this change on their website: https://www.pilates.
The PAA worked hard to ensure the health authorities were aware of all the evidence supporting the efficacy of Pilates.
HCF is the only Health Fund to date that has issued new guidelines for their members – see here: https://www.pilates.org.
We recommend members of other Funds contact their provider to find out what they are doing and let them know what you want.
